A message from our Association President

When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors! This National Weather Service slogan is a reminder that hearing thunder means lightning is close enough to strike. Stop all outdoor activities at the first sound of thunder or sighting of lightning, and all swimmers should immediately leave the water and clear the pool deck. Shelter in an enclosed building or a hard-topped vehicle.

Remember the 30-minute rule — stay out of the water and off outdoor fields for at least 30 minutes after the last clap of thunder or sighting of lightning. Please share this with your children and grandchildren. Safety first.

— Barbara Cummings, Association President

Board of Directors · Meeting of 15 July

Highlights from the July Board meeting

  • The kiddie pool pump was replaced and an outdoor clock installed at the pool house
  • Heat-tolerant plantings have been added to two common area landscape beds
  • The Turnberry entrance monument has been patched and painted, including the lettering
  • Drainage easement maintenance along Paradise Pond Road and Mariam Elias Way is complete

Atlantic Pipe Services cleaned the pipe and located the missing yard drain by video camera, confirming the pipe and its joints are undamaged. A-Team Site Works then cleaned and reconstructed the covered yard drain, found beneath dirt and tree roots. The Board will continue working with Nevin Engineering to define ongoing maintenance requirements and costs for the Turnberry Reserve Study, and thanks the homeowners along the easement for their cooperation.

Please note

An emergency repair was approved for the sink in the women's bathroom at the pool. Please do not sit on the sink — it is affixed to the wall and has no support base.

The next Board of Directors meeting is Tuesday 16 September at 4:30 p.m. All are welcome.

Notices from around the neighborhood

  • Coffee with the BOD candidates. The October Meet and Greet at the K&B has been cancelled and replaced with a casual, informal gathering on Saturday 24 October, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Turnberry pool parking lot. Please mark your calendars.
  • Board volunteers wanted. It is almost the time of year when we seek volunteers to serve on the Board of Directors. Volunteering fosters a sense of community, helps preserve property values, and contributes savings by offsetting potential expenses.
  • Planning exterior work? Driveway, roof, patio, landscaping — please submit an ARB application form first. Forms and the ARB Standards & Guidelines are in the documents library.
  • Website transition. The Webmaster Committee is moving the site to a new hosting provider. More information will follow in the coming weeks.
  • Close your umbrella. With frequent afternoon thunderstorms, please close pool umbrellas when you leave the pool area.
  • Keep drains clear. Please do not sweep or wash leaves and lawn trimmings into storm or yard drains. Over time this clogs the drains and harms our ponds. Homeowners are responsible for the actions of their lawn services.
  • Parking. Overnight street parking is prohibited between 11:30 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. under the May 2024 Rules & Regulations. No vehicle may be parked overnight in the pool lot without prior approval and a parking pass from the Property Manager.

Lawn watering requirements

Water lawns only when authorized. Your day depends on whether your house number is even or odd.

  • Even numbered homes water on Sundays
  • Odd numbered homes water on Saturdays

The lakes and ponds in these photographs are the same water supply the restrictions protect. More information on conserving Florida's water is published by the St. Johns River Water Management District.

General safety tips for homeowners

Most incidents reported in the neighborhood involve unlocked vehicles. A few habits each evening make the difference.

  • Lock your car doors
  • Remove valuables — keys, garage remotes, firearms, purses, wallets
  • Leave the garage and front porch lights on at night
  • Always lock exterior doors to your home
  • Keep car keys on the nightstand — the panic button works as an alarm
  • Be aware of your surroundings

Allied Universal runs a mobile patrol through the neighborhood. If something doesn't seem right, call the Sheriff's non-emergency line.
